An empty property on one of Newcastle’s most high-profile streets is once again available to potential tenants following a six-figure refurbishment.

Silverstone Building Consultancy has helped transform the former Gershwin’s restaurant and event space on Dean Street, which has been unoccupied for a number of years, on behalf of landlord, Newcastle-based property investment company RPU Group Plc.

The basement and lower ground floor premises, once well-known for live jazz music, has been brought back into use, providing an exciting opportunity for a new food and drink establishment to open in the city centre.

Phil Bone, associate director at Silverstone, who led the project as contract administrator, said: “Now is the ideal time for this great underground property to return to the market. 

“The hospitality sector in Newcastle is booming at present, with several new bars and restaurants recently opening close by, and similar, established premises enjoying a good level of success.

Silverstone’s role involved managing the refurbishment works which included the strip-out of previous fittings, structural reconfiguration, the treatment of historic damp issues including a new tanking system throughout and full redecoration. 

Retail Property Consultants @retail are now taking interest from several prospective tenants. Ian Thurlbeck, director at the firm said: “This space has so much potential for whoever chooses to move in. It’s a blank canvas which can fitted out to suit the tenant’s requirements. 

“It’s in such a vibrant and central part of the city centre and the building provides so much character that appeals to a lot of occupiers.”
