Silverstone completes phase one of multi-million-pound developments to build capacity for growth at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK

Chartered building surveyors, Silverstone, has completed a two-storey office extension and mezzanine at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK’s (HCMUK) Hebburn HQ, and has been appointed to carry out further works on the site.

The new 6,500 sq. ft. steel frame internal extension includes office space, locker rooms, changing facilities, showers and a graphics print and lamination room. The development has significantly raised the quality and range of amenities for HCMUK’s office and production employees and created extra capacity for expansion.

Silverstone was project manager and contract administrator and brought Tri Construction on board as main contractor following a competitive tender process.

Following the successful completion of the building, HCMUK has instructed Silverstone to carry out further projects including a heating refurbishment of a 65,000 sq. ft. unit it has recently acquired and other infrastructure upgrading works around their 12-acre site.

HCMUK, which was established over 50 years ago, recently acquired a 4.7-acre site adjacent to its head office at Monkton Business Park to expand its offices and Hitachi Connected Technology production facilities.

Director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, Phil Bone said: “Working with such a respected, global brand is a privilege and we’re excited that our completed work for HCMUK has impressed and led on to us being appointed on further projects.”

The design team for the completed extension included Seymour Architecture, structural engineers, SHED, mechanical and engineering experts, JCP, and Blue Keep Building Control.

Dave Roberts, CEO at HCMUK said: “Silverstone has done a great job of delivering an industry leading facility that will improve our capacity and productivity, as well as enhancing the welfare of our team. The main challenge was constructing the extension safely and efficiently, whilst remaining fully operational but I’m pleased to say we achieved that thanks to strong collaboration between all parties involved. We are continuing our partnership with Silverstone to deliver the next key pieces of the jigsaw that will create a world-class facility here in Hebburn.”

Silverstone Building Consultancy is a firm of chartered building surveyors and project managers with offices in Leeds, Newcastle and London.
